Thoughts on Evolving Consciousness
Is it possible that we are evolving in more ways than one? Is it possible that not only our physical forms are adapting and growing over time, but also the nature of our consciousness? In my opinion, we are doing just that. As a species, the ways in which we think about and understand our realities are changing; are seeing new horizons. We are changing the way we use our minds.
Historically, in the human search for power, we have taken to a “power-over” paradigm. A “power over” paradigm is reflected in the ways we’ve tried to impose control over our natural environment, over our relationships, and over our own lives. A power-over mindset seeks to dominate and control. Conversely a paradigm of “power-within” aims to foster and cultivate our personal power and be at peace with our world.
Throughout my lifelong observation and counseling of people who struggle with the “power-over” mindset, it is my belief that we have been and are now changing from a paradigm of power-over to one of power-within. When I think about what true global change might look like, I see a world where we are learning how to manifest our own reality consciously, a world where we learn how to harness our internal power to meet our desires, and a world where we focus our intention so that what we desire is created.
According to popular news sources, many people now are searching for work. This is a reality for many, but it can be changed. To find work, people look through want ads and Internet postings. They spend countless hours of personal energy setting up interviews and sending resumes. People compromise their personal power with the struggle to gain power over their desires. Here at Evolving Consciousness, we instead ask the question: what would happen if we understood how to use our clear personal power to make the job come to us? By evolving our consciousness to realize that our desires are met through clear and focused attention to our truths and the truth about what we desire, we can create the world we want. This is not “magical thinking”; this is how life can work when you’re aligned with it. My students, my clients, and myself have all seen real results through a changed way of thinking, an understanding of power-within. Suddenly as if out of nowhere, my students are doing what they wanted, with whomever they want and so on. It feels magical and even sounds magical yet it’s simply moving into another plane of existence, a new paradigm.
I see it like this: energy flows into form, and consciousness directs energy. We are consciousness in form; we direct energy into any form we focus on. So why would this lead to a power within rather then a power over dynamic? The answer is because energy is infinitely abundant. Drawing from this infinite source, there is no limit to what we can create for ourselves. I don’t live in need or in fear when I learn to create from a place of consciousness. I have no need to steal, no need to repent, no need for war. Like any practice or discipline, it may take awhile to learn the tools to direct your consciousness. Though, with time these tools become the foundation a lifetime of practice in evolving consciousness. With this practice you do see the rewards fairly soon, at first in small ways then in bigger and bigger ones.
All this great stuff about creating your own reality increases internal freedom and a reality of abundance, which then adds to greater global peace, love and joy. What would the world look like if we all felt abundant?

Tool: Focus
Meditate for a moment on the difference between attention and focus? One’s ability to intentionally direct one’s focus can become an invaluable tool. Learn to focus your mind to place it on what you want. For practice, sit before a lit candle focus only on the flame. Every time your mind wanders, gently bring it back to the flame. Start with one minute of clear focus on the flame. With continued practice, attempt to move up to five minutes of clear focus at a time. Do this daily or as many days as you can. Make it easy for yourself, and be sure to praise yourself every time you sit down to do this.
Affirmation: I am a spark of divine energy in a physical form.
Blessings ‘til next time.

Bear, I like what you are saying and your “power within” paradigm sounds true to me. I’ll meditate on the difference between attention and focus as you suggest and see for myself. I am looking forward to hearing more from you in your blog.
I love your wise words, gentle bear
happy new year!!
you are a gift to the world
thank you for all the healing and guidance
looking forward to next time on this blog:)
Bear, this was a great reminder to set the tone for my online job search this morning! that there is a new paradigm/dimension that already exists, just waiting for us to step into it. was also thinking about the paradox that exists between getting our minds free and the discipline that might take, as far as reshaping our habitual ways of thinking…. does freeing our minds require a certain amount of “power over” our minds? in gratitude, ro
Hi Ro,
There is a place between discipline and power-within. example; in this exercise if my mind doesn’t focus i don’t fight or push (power-over) I observe then bring it back to the candle, The observation is as important as the change of focus.
What about showing up to do it, well if something feeds you and you feel good about it, it’s easier to show up. when you affirm yourself you assist that process. In power-over a person might beat themselves up if they miss a day or lose focus, in power-within the focus is on what is working. So instead of you blew it or you’ll never get it, you might say to yourself. I’m still learning.
Blessings Bear
